It was a very difficult week for wool when the AWEX EMI finished at 1287¢, 155¢ lower (-10.7%) in Australian currency and 67¢ lower (-7.8%) in US currency at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle. It was the lowest closing value this season for the EMI in both Australian and US Currencies.
37,713 bales were on offer nationally, compared with 42,934 bales last sale. 44.9% of the offering was passed in after 16.6% of the potential offering was withdrawn prior to sale, leaving 20,782 bales as sold.
AWEX reports that the value of the wool sold was $28.3 million ($1,362 per bale), taking the season total to $1.647 billion ($1,685 per bale). The number of bales sold at auction this season is now 18.2% less than in 2018/19.
