Week Ending 28 April 2023 (Week 43)

Sales on were held on Wednesday and Thursday this week following the ANZAC Day Public Holiday on Tuesday. The AWEX EMI finished 13¢ higher (+1.0%) in Australian currency and 3¢ lower (-0.3%) in US currency at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle on Thursday. 38,505 bales were on offer nationally, compared with 52,951 bales last sale. 9.2% of the offering was passed in after 7.2% of the potential offering was withdrawn prior to sale. 34,967 bales were sold. AWEX reports that the value of the wool sold was $50.3 million ($1,438 per bale), which took the season total past the $2 billion milestone to $2.040 billion ($1,546 per bale). The number of bales sold at auction this season is now 0.3% greater than in 2021/22.
