With five years at Fox & Lillie Rural and a career in wool that began in private buying after moving to Tamworth, Dave has built strong relationships with growers across the region and has a genuine passion for the Australian wool industry.
We caught up with Dave to learn a little bit more about his career, the industry and life as a wool rep at Fox & Lillie Rural.
How did you first get involved in the wool industry?
My first job when I moved to Tamworth was private buying.
What do you enjoy most about working with growers?
Building relationships and becoming good friends they can trust.
What are you hearing from growers at the moment?
The market is strong at the moment, but growers are nervous about whether it will stay there.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to wool growers?
Weight is KING.
What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the industry?
Growers breeding more dual-purpose sheep.
What’s something people might not know about being a wool representative?
The hours you do!
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Everything. I eat, sleep and breath it.
What keeps you passionate about the wool industry?
The fibre and the people in it.
What’s been one of the most memorable moments in your career?
Joining Fox & Lillie Rural.
