Week Ending 14 July 2023 (Week 02) The AWEX EMI finished 17¢ higher (+1.5%) in Australian currency and 22¢ higher (+2.8%) in US currency at sales in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle in Week 02. Sales now go into the annual mid-year three week break. 43,697 bales were on offer nationally, compared with 36,124 bales last sale. 7.6% of the offering was passed in after 3.6% of the potential offering was withdrawn prior to sale. 40,373 bales were sold. AWEX reports that the value of the wool sold was $56.0 million ($1,387 per bale), taking the season total to $101.6 million ($1,370 per bale). The quantities on offer in the two opening sales were well down on the first two sales of last year, with 18.8% fewer bale sold than in 2021/22.
